The arrest of a popular content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna popularly known as Odogwu of Asaba, by the Delta State Police Command over allegations connecting the death of a 20-year-old woman, Favour Agbro, has sparked widespread reactions across Delta State. While police investigations are ongoing, residents have been sharing their views on the incident.
Residents of Asaba expressed shock and sadness over the incident, describing it as a painful reminder of the need to protect young people from all forms of abuse and exploitation.
They commended the Delta State Police Command for making an arrest and urged investigators to carry out a thorough, impartial and professional investigation to establish all the facts surrounding the case.
Some residents advised young people to exercise caution when accepting invitations from individuals they meet through social media or other platforms. They also encouraged parents and guardians to maintain open communication with their children and be aware of their movements.
Others stressed the importance of speaking up and reporting any form of sexual violence, intimidation or abuse to the appropriate authorities without delay. They also called for stronger public awareness on gender-based violence and mental health support for victims of trauma.
The respondents also appealed to members of the public to avoid spreading rumours, unverified information or making conclusions about the case while investigations are ongoing, and allow the judicial process to take its course.
They said the incident highlights the need for greater vigilance, responsible use of social media, improved child and youth protection, and continued public education on personal safety and access to support services.
