The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, on Wednesday, led a high powered delegation to the site where a mini sports stadium will be constructed in Wamba Local Government Area of the State.

The team comprising the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu Alhassan; Directors of Facilities and Stadia Management, Yusuf Ahmad, and Lawrence Shammah(Director of Sports Organizing); Technical Team; Potential Contractors and other critical stakeholders, was received by the Executive Chairman of Wamba Local Government Area, Hon. Ezekiel Musa Jagga, at the Local Government Area Secretariat, and Paramount Ruler of the Council, HRH. Lawal Musa Nagogo(Oriye Rindre), at his Palace.
The proposed stadium is part of the State Government’s efforts to promote sports development and provide infrastructure for young athletes in the State.
The Commissioner, Kwanta Yakubu, expressed optimism that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe and would serve as a hub for sports activities in the area and Nasarawa Northern Zone.
“The visit here today is in compliance with the directive of the Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, regarding his dedication towards sports development in the State.
“Recall that the Governor made it categorically clear that he wants to have a signature in sports across the State, and part of that is the construction of mini sports stadia in the three senatorial districts of the State.
“Wamba Local Government Area is, hitherto, one of the selected locations for the siting of the mini stadium.
“We have interfaced with the Executive Chairman of the Local Government Area as well as the paramount ruler of Wamba, and collaboratively, they have allocated a befitting site along Ungow-Wayo Road, just a stone throw from Wamba town.
“We are here with a renowned architect from the Ministry of Works, and experts, as well as the potential contractors, and before the end of the next two weeks, we should be able to come out with the architectural design for the stadium, and other related documents for full commencement of the legacy project.
“The Governor is committed to his pledge to the people of Wamba and Nasarawa State as a whole regarding delivering quality sporting infrastructure to meet the growing number of young athletes in the State.
“Once completed, this project will not only aid the discovery of hidden sporting potentials in the benefiting communities but also help in boosting the revenues and attracting investments to the State.
“We thank the Executive Chairman of Wamba Local Government Area, the Oriye Rindre and the good people of Wamba Local Government Area for their cooperation towards this project.
“All things being equal, we should be able to complete and commission this project within the stipulated timeframe”, the Commissioner remarked.
Speaking earlier, Assistant Director, Public Buildings, Nasarawa State Ministry of Works and Housing, Architect Abubakar Tanimu Elayo, said the site is conducive for the proposed project, adding that upon approval, the stadium job should be completed within six months.
Chairman of Wamba Local, Hon. Ezekiel Musa Jagga, and the Oriye Rindre, HRH. Lawal Musa Nagogo(CFR), welcomed the delegation and pledged the support of the Local Government Area in ensuring the successful execution of the project.
They also expressed gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Nasarawa State Government, particularly the leadership of the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, for choosing Wamba for the project, which they believe would bring massive development and opportunities to the area and surrounding communities.
The proposed 500 capacity Wamba mini stadium is expected to feature a standard football field, laid with artificial turf, athletic tracks, changing rooms, and a modest indoor sport hall.
Also on the entourage of the Commissioner included SSA to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Youth Affairs, Larai Makpu; Technical and Administrative Aides to the Commissioner as well as Chairman of the State Basketball Association, Ayuba Tijjani, and press personnel.
