……Say Drug Doesn’t Solve Problems, Only Expands It.

As the challenges posed by drug abuse and trafficking continue to take the front burner in national discuss, the Social Watch Anti Drugs Abuse Advocacy SWADDA has partnered the Delta State Government, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Delta State Command, the Delta State Drug Control Committee and other groups to sensitize the public on the dangers of drug abuse and cyber crime.
The two day event which held in Asaba the Delta state capital, saw the Social Watch Anti Drugs Abuse Advocacy SWADDA Express and partners embark on a road walk on day 1, from the Oshimili Arcade and terminating at the popular Interbau roundabout, with placards bearing various inscriptions to drive home their message.
The 2nd day of the event held at the Government House Asaba, with government functionaries in state, in attendance.
Speaking with Journalists, the Commander of the Social Watch Anti Drugs Abuse Advocacy SWADAA, Dr. Felix Ifeanyi Nwabuokei harped on the need for community based approach in combating criminality and violence.
Dr. Nwabuokei said the sensitization was informed by the increasing case of Drug abuse and addictions especially amongst the younger generation, saying that drug abuse and cyber crime has become a threat to peaceful coexistence.
He said SWADAA, a non governmental paramilitary organisation established with the aim of educating youths and adults on the dangers of drug abuse, illicit drug implantation, rape, trafficking and other social ills.
Dr Nwabuokei said through constant orientation, educative workshops, empowerment programmes, disciplinary drill training and lectures on security measures and social awareness, SWADAA was nurturing youths to become more reliable and patriotic citizens.
The Deputy State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA Mr Victor Chuks Isibor, the President of Oshimili Youths, Comrade Oba Vincent and others who spoke, said drug abuse has stolen the future of young people and called on all stakeholders including parents to get actively involved in the fight against drug abuse.
The event which saw the gathering of stakeholders from different sectors of the economy including students and Corp members, featured drama presentation and lectures on drugs abuse
It was celebrated in commemoration of the 2025 International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as World Drug Day, marked on 26 June every year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse.
