Historic Stride: Delta Police Celebrate 70 Years of Women in NPF with Anti-GBV Walkathon

The Delta State Police Command on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, marked a major national milestone — 70 years of women in the Nigeria Police Force — with a vibrant 5km Walkathon in Asaba aimed at amplifying the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the symbolic march drew senior female officers, women personnel from various divisions, male counterparts, partner organizations, and members of the public. Together, they walked in solidarity with survivors of GBV and in honour of the trailblazing women whose service since 1955 helped in shaping policing in Nigeria.

Addressing participants, senior officers reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to gender-responsive policing, stronger support systems for survivors, and the uncompromising prosecution of offenders involved in domestic violence, sexual abuse, trafficking, and related crimes. They described the 70-year milestone as a legacy of courage, professionalism, and leadership by generations of women who continue to impact national security.

CP Abaniwonda praised female officers for their discipline, dedication, and critical roles in crime prevention, investigation, community engagement, and victim support across Delta State. He stressed that tackling GBV remains a top priority and urged residents to report abuses promptly and cooperate with law enforcement.

The Command also reiterated its pledge to protect vulnerable groups and deepen collaboration with stakeholders to eliminate GBV in all forms, while encouraging residents to report any case of domestic or gender-based violence at the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotline: 08036684974.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Asaba, SP Bright Edafe, reiterates the unwavering commitment of the Delta State Police Command in its mission to build a safer, more inclusive, and secure Delta State.
