The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a carpenter, Mustapha Marwana, after investigations found no evidence linking him to terrorist activities.
Marwana, a native of Katsina State, was arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of school pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to the DSS, an investigation panel found no evidence connecting Marwana to the membership, financing, logistics or operations of the Ansaru terrorist group.
Following the findings, the Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, ordered his immediate release and approved an initial ₦3 million compensation to support his reintegration and livelihood.
Marwana was subsequently released to his lawyer, Oghene Forgive.
Speaking after his release, Marwana expressed appreciation to the DSS leadership for what he described as a humane intervention.
The Service said the compensation forms part of its efforts to support individuals who are cleared after investigations and strengthen public confidence in its operations.
The DSS further disclosed that more than ₦300 million has been paid under the current leadership to individuals cleared of allegations or affected by cases of mistaken identity.
