The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta State has declared war on poverty politics, vowing that no party will exploit the people with handouts and manipulation in the run-up to the 2027 governorship elections.
Addressing journalists after a high-stakes meeting of key stakeholders in Asaba, the Delta state capital, Hon. Lawrence Emeka Ozegbe, a member of ADC’s Transition Committee, said the era of using poverty as a political weapon is officially over. He warned that any attempt to exploit the people with dirty money and empty promises will be vigorously resisted.
Ozegbe said the ADC is not just a new force in Delta, but a force with resources and the will to defeat “so-called moneybags.”
Ozegbe also called out the failures of successive governments in Delta, pointing out that despite the state’s huge federal allocations and increasing internally generated revenue, underdevelopment and poverty still existed, noting that Enough is enough.
Anthony Ominogho, another ADC Transition Committee member, said the ADC is “primed for victory” in 2027. He likened their campaign to the biblical battle between David and Goliath, with ADC being the underdog ready to overthrow the old guard.
Omonigho said in a move to mobilize support, the party will launch a fierce membership drive starting December 19, 2025, urging Deltans to reject manipulation and join the party committed to real change.
On the issue of power rotation, ADC made it clear that their interest is not in rotational arrangements, but competence, adding that ADC’s next candidate will be someone capable of leading Delta to prosperity—not just a candidate picked on the basis of political deals.
The meeting was attended by key party figures including Barrister George Timinimi, Mr. Johnson Urhukpe, and Ambassador Richard Aduvie (JP), among others, all promising to lead the charge in 2027 as the dominant opposition party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State.
The message is clear: 2027 is the year for real change, and ADC is coming for the government house.
