…Presents Awards to Deserving Individuals and Groups.

Local Government Coordinators and Networks Coordinators of the United Nations Women Coordination Mechanism have been inaugurated.
The Delta State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Princess Pat Ajudua, while inaugurating the coordinators of networks and the twenty five local government focal persons, said issues of gender based violence are not taken Lightly in the state.
Princess Ajudua said the gathering was aimed at strengthening advocacy for their participation in governance, gender equality and to end gender based violence, adding that the UN women would coordinate women in every local government area of the state and train them to be financially and economically independent”.
She urged them to work with focus in order to achieve the purpose for which they were appointed, in line with the policies and programmes of the UN Women .
Delta State Coordinator and UN Civil Society organisations Representative , Ambassador Eris Jewo-Ibi said the coordination mechanism of the UN Women was launched last year in Calabar, adding that they were working with all the line ministries, especially the ministry of women affairs, community and social development where it is domiciled.
Ambassador Jewo-Ibi said the inauguration of coordinators for the twenty five local government areas of Delta State and the major networks, was part of a broader efforts to ensure effective coordination of activities of all the women in the state.
The event featured presentation of awards of excellence, and commendations to organisations and individuals including the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Princess Pat Ajudua.
It also featured decoration of deserving personalities including the immediate past chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, and State Coordinator, 50/50 action Women Advocacy Group, Comrade Patricia Gbemudu, as well as lectures on the topic : ‘Addressing Online Gender Based Violence: Challenges and Solutions in the Digital Age , Focusing on Cyber Bullying, Online Harassment, and Strategies to Safeguard Women in the Digital Space by a director in the Delta State Ministry of Information, Stella Macaulay, and “Skills Building on Homestead Garden” by the Delta State Coordinator, Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria, Mr John Ogbeide.
