UN-POLAC Confers Dr. Isaac Akpoveta Ambassador of Peace

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr Isaac Akpoveta, has been conferred with the UN-POLAC Ambassadorial Award and a Doctorate of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) by the United Nations Positive Living Award Centre (UN-POLAC).

Dr Akpoveta was also appointed Keeper of the UN-POLAC Flags, and the UN-POLAC Patron for the South-South region, in recognition of what the organization described as his contributions to peace building and the advancement of humanity.

The investiture ceremony took place at Veta Villa in Ufuoma, Ughelli, in Delta State.

Performing the decoration, the UN-POLAC Nigeria Country President, Ambassador Peter Ohagwa, said the honours acknowledged not only Dr Akpoveta’s achievements but also his character. He noted that the health executive had “used his influence and intellect to build bridges where others erect walls”, urging Nigerians to emulate his example.

UN-POLAC Director General, Prof Halo Eton, represented by the organization’s Secretary General, Dr Patrick Agu, highlighted Dr Akpoveta’s record of service, adding that POLAC’s mission includes defending human rights, restoring human dignity, and promoting peace and security globally.

In his acceptance speech, Dr Akpoveta described the awards as a call to greater responsibility. He dedicated them to vulnerable groups in society and said POLAC’s ideals reflected “peace without violence, justice without oppression and development without discrimination”. The hoisting of the UN-POLAC flags at his residence, he said, symbolized a commitment to nurturing initiatives that promote compassion and shared prosperity.

Speakers at the event — including the Chairman of the DSCHC Board, Dr Austin Obidi; Chairman of the occasion, Mr Peter Akpofure; and the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, HRM Oharisi III — said the honours were well-deserved and a source of pride for the state.

The ceremony also featured an inspection of the area, the formal raising of the organization’s flags.
Dr Akpoveta later cut a celebratory cake alongside his wife and dignitaries.

Members of the Board and Management of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission were among dignitaries that attended the event
