An Emevor-born engineer, Charles Edowuro, has secured employment with Sinohydro Corporation Limited following his participation in a skills acquisition programme facilitated through the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and sponsored by Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District.
Edowuro, a native of Emevor in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, was nominated in 2025 by Senator Joel-Onowakpo for specialised training in welding and fabrication, a skill set widely used in the oil and gas industry, civil engineering, hydropower, and other infrastructure-related sectors.
According to programme records, Edowuro had no prior professional background in welding and fabrication before the training, which was conducted in Port Harcourt and Warri. He completed the programme with distinction and was recognised for leadership and conduct during the training period.
Following the completion of the programme, Edowuro successfully passed recruitment assessments and practical evaluations, leading to his engagement by Sinohydro Corporation Limited, a Chinese-owned multinational engineering firm. The company, a subsidiary of the Power Construction Corporation of China, operates in areas including water conservancy, hydropower development, and large-scale civil engineering projects such as dams, bridges, roads, and ports.
The welding and fabrication programme is one of several capacity-building initiatives supported through the NCDMB across Delta South Senatorial District. Other training areas under the intervention include FPSO operations, transformer repairs, solar power installation, data science, electricity metering, shipbuilding, shipboard security, modular housing production, and vocational manufacturing.
Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Local Content, has facilitated multiple nominations for constituents into federally backed skills development programmes aimed at improving employability and local participation in key industrial sectors.
Edowuro’s employment outcome highlights the role of targeted vocational training in supporting workforce development and local content objectives within Nigeria’s industrial and infrastructure sectors.
