Transport Minister Senator Said Alkali has directed the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to step up efficiency and service delivery across the country’s rail network, emphasizing that public feedback is crucial for enhancing both safety and reliability.
Speaking on ongoing reforms, Senator Alkali said the Ministry of Transportation had conducted a comprehensive review of operations, strengthened monitoring protocols, and expanded feedback channels to ensure greater transparency and accountability in the rail sector.
The NRC has appealed to passengers traveling the Abuja–Kaduna rail line to remain patient as services continue to operate at reduced capacity. The slowdowns follow a series of disruptions, including a terrorist attack in March 2022and a recent train derailment, which damaged coaches and affected schedules.
Repairs and refurbishment of affected rolling stock are ongoing, the NRC noted, with additional trains being deployed to gradually restore normal operations.
Dr. Kayode Opeifa, NRC Managing Director, reaffirmed that full service restoration and heightened security measures are top priorities. He assured commuters that the Corporation is committed to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient rail travel, while urging patience as efforts continue to bring services back to full capacity.
