Asaba, 1 December 2025 – The Delta State Police Command, led by CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, on Monday convened a high-level peace meeting with stakeholders from Okwama, Okoloba, and Akugbene communities to address tensions over boundary disputes and fishing rights.
Held at the Area Command, Warri, the meeting brought together community leaders, youth representatives, traditional authorities, and security stakeholders to deliberate on conflict prevention and peaceful coexistence. CP Abaniwonda emphasized that the Command would not tolerate self-help measures and pledged firm action against any disturbance of public order.
Participants, including community leaders and youth representatives, expressed gratitude for the intervention and reaffirmed their commitment to peace. Key resolutions included discouraging youths from carrying arms, ensuring free access to waterways for fishing, following up on boundary adjustment requests to the State Government, and establishing a Peace Committee WhatsApp platform for communication and early-warning.
The DCP Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, will coordinate a follow-up meeting with Local Government Chairmen to monitor activities along the waterways. CP Abaniwonda commended stakeholders for their cooperation and urged continued dialogue to maintain lasting peace.
