Delta State Government has reassured residents that all ongoing road projects across the state will be completed, with a firm promise that none will be abandoned.
The assurance came as protesters stormed Government House in Asaba over concerns about the slow pace of work on the Achalla–Ibusa road.
Speaking on behalf of Governor , Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, commended the demonstrators for their peaceful approach and acknowledged their concerns.
He said the governor is fully aware of the situation and has directed immediate engagement with the community.
Aniagwu explained that the Achalla–Ibusa road is part of a key development corridor linking Asaba to Ibusa, aimed at improving access and boosting economic activity.
He confirmed that the contractor is on site and work is ongoing, while assuring residents that the project will be completed.
According to him, the current administration has a track record of completing even long-abandoned projects, some dating back over a decade.
He also addressed concerns about delays, noting that the rainy season poses challenges but immediate steps will be taken to make the road motorable, while ensuring quality and durability.
The commissioner further encouraged residents to use government feedback channels, including a whistleblower line, to report issues for prompt response.
Earlier, leader of the protest, Comrade Lawrence Nwanze, said the demonstration was to call for faster work, especially from the Ibusa axis of the road.
While praising the governor’s efforts in road development, he described the current state of the Achalla–Ibusa road as unbearable for commuters.
The protest ended peacefully, with residents expressing hope that the government’s assurances will lead to quicker completion of the project.
