Jos, Plateau State — The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring enduring peace and security on the Plateau and across Nigeria.
The assurance came on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, during a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House in Jos, as part of the COAS’s operational and familiarisation tour of Army formations in the state.
Lieutenant General Shaibu commended the Plateau State Government for its continued support to the Nigerian Army, especially the Armoured Corps, describing the state as both a strategic partner and the proud home of the Corps.
He acknowledged that the security challenges on the Plateau are complex but said they are surmountable through collaboration, intelligence sharing, and the collective effort of all stakeholders.
“The Nigerian Army will continue to deploy its personnel and resources professionally to mitigate security threats and ensure the protection of lives and property. With all hands on deck, lasting peace on the Plateau is achievable,” the COAS said.
Governor Mutfwang Praises Army’s Efforts
Governor Mutfwang congratulated Lieutenant General Shaibu on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff, praising the professionalism, sacrifices, and gallantry of Nigerian Army personnel nationwide.
He particularly commended troops under Operation ENDURING PEACE, whose proactive efforts ensured peaceful 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations in Plateau State.
The governor reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting both kinetic and non-kinetic operations while calling for sustained collaboration to tackle residual security challenges in some areas.
Civil-Military Collaboration Highlighted
During the visit, the COAS also paid homage to Gbong Gwom Jos, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, assuring him of the Army’s ongoing commitment to peace. The traditional ruler pledged to continue educating the youth and the wider community to maintain and build on the peace achieved so far.
The visit reinforced the importance of civil–military collaboration between the Nigerian Army, state governments, and traditional institutions as a key pillar for peace, stability, and enduring national security across the country.
