Residents of Ndokwa East Local Government Area are set to witness a major infrastructural milestone as Delta State Governor, , visits the area for the groundbreaking ceremony of the 10.8-kilometre Aboh–Akarai Road.
The project, which includes the construction of a 100-metre bridge across the Okiri River, is expected to significantly improve connectivity among several riverine communities that have long grappled with difficult access.
The Executive Chairman of Ndokwa East LGA, Hon. (Chief) Vincent Osilonya, who is hosting the event on behalf of the people, described the project as a “historic intervention” that will open up the area for economic growth, social integration, and easier movement of goods and services.
Scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, 2025, at 10 a.m., the ceremony is expected to draw government officials, community leaders, and residents eager to witness what many see as a turning point for the local economy.
For decades, communities in Ndokwa East have relied heavily on waterways and poorly maintained access routes, limiting development and increasing the cost of living. The Aboh–Akarai Road project, with its strategic bridge component, is designed to change that narrative by providing a more reliable and permanent transport link.
Speaking ahead of the event, Osilonya emphasized the importance of the governor’s presence, noting that it reflects the state government’s commitment to equitable development across all regions.
“This project will link our communities like never before and bring government closer to the people,” he said, urging residents to turn out in large numbers to welcome the governor and be part of the historic occasion.
The ceremony is expected to feature community participation, and official proceedings marking the commencement of construction work.
With anticipation building across the LGA, many residents see the project not just as a road, but as a pathway to new opportunities, improved livelihoods, and a stronger connection to the rest of Delta State
