Reactions have continued to trail the Federal Government’s newly announced tax reform laws, with residents of Delta State expressing mixed feelings about its potential impact on their livelihoods.
Some residents in the state capital who spoke in an interview with NIM correspondents welcomed the new tax reforms, saying it could improve government revenue and strengthen the economy if implemented fairly.
Others questioned the timing of the reforms, citing economic hardship and rising inflation, with many expressing fears that the new measures may increase pressure on small businesses and further increase the current high cost of living.
They called on the government to engage citizens more, prioritize job creation, be transparent with how the money is used and ensure that low-income earners are protected.
Although the Federal Government says the tax reform is aimed at simplifying the tax system, widening the tax net, and boosting national revenue, residents insist that the true test will lie in implementation and visible improvement in public services.
