Nigeria is set to witness a major gathering focused on women’s contributions to national security as preparations intensify for the maiden edition of the WINSEC Summit & Awards 2026, scheduled to hold in Abuja.
The summit, formally known as the Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC), is expected to convene key stakeholders across the security sector, government institutions, civil society organisations and the media to deliberate on strategies for strengthening Nigeria’s security framework while promoting greater inclusion of women in security-related roles.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, National Chairperson of the NigeriaAssociationofWomenJournalists, Aishatu Ibrahim, described the event as a strategic national platform aimed at recognising outstanding individuals and institutions whose service has contributed meaningfully to peace, safety and national development.
According to her, the summit is designed not only to honour excellence and sacrifice within the country’s security and public service ecosystem but also to create opportunities for dialogue, collaboration and innovation in tackling evolving security challenges.
With less than four weeks to the event, organisers say preparations are already at an advanced stage, with committees working to ensure a seamless and impactful outing that meets international standards.
Ibrahim stressed that the success of the inaugural edition would be critical in establishing WINSEC as an enduring annual platform dedicated to deepening women’s participation, leadership and visibility in the nation’s security architecture.
Organisers further disclosed that the summit is being convened in collaboration with media and professional bodies, a move aimed at reinforcing transparency, professionalism and broad stakeholder engagement.
