Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has described the recently concluded APC primary elections in the state as a reflection of growing political stability, using a thanksgiving service in Asaba to underscore what he called divine guidance and peaceful conduct in the electoral process.
Speaking during a morning devotion at the Government House Chapel, the governor said the peaceful outcome of the primaries represented a significant departure from past experiences and a sign of progress in Delta’s political environment.
Rather than focusing solely on political victory, Oborevwori used the occasion to highlight unity within the state’s political landscape, stressing that peace remains a critical ingredient for governance and development.
He said the absence of violence, internal crisis or factional clashes during the primaries was a development worth acknowledging and attributing to divine grace and collective responsibility.
The governor, Rt. Hon. , noted that thanksgiving had become a personal tradition following milestones and political events, adding that leaders must consistently recognize what he described as the importance of divine favour in public service.
Quoting Psalm 100:4, he emphasized the role of gratitude and humility in leadership, urging residents to remain thankful not only for political outcomes but also for life, health and daily blessings.
Oborevwori drew a comparison between the recently concluded primaries and the more turbulent experiences of the 2022 election cycle, describing the current atmosphere as a positive indicator of political maturity within the state.
According to him, the peaceful conduct of the exercise reflects improved collaboration among political actors and growing acceptance of dialogue over confrontation in resolving political differences.
He also used the platform to caution against excessive attachment to political personalities, urging citizens to recognize service to leadership as ultimately service to God.
Beyond politics, the governor highlighted the importance of gratitude for good health and life, noting that material wealth is meaningless without wellbeing.
He commended ongoing prayer sessions at the Government House Chapel and announced plans for the state’s annual thanksgiving service, scheduled to coincide with activities marking his third-year anniversary in office.
The event, while religious in nature, carried a broader political undertone of reconciliation, continuity and stability within Delta’s evolving democratic landscape.
