– Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has inaugurated the newly completed Model Technical College, Omadino, describing technical and vocational education as a key tool for tackling youth unemployment. The Governor emphasized that graduates of the institution would emerge not just as job seekers, but as skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and employers of labor.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Monday in Omadino, Warri South Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori called the college a flagship project in technical education, highlighting that it reflects the administration’s clarity of vision, strategic planning, and disciplined execution. He noted that the institution had already begun academic activities, demonstrating that the facility was fully operational and ready to deliver quality education.
The Governor praised his administration’s record of development, noting that within two years, landmark projects had been delivered without borrowing or imposing additional burdens on Deltans. He highlighted the timely payment of contractors as a key factor in ensuring prompt delivery of projects.
The Model Technical College boasts 12 classrooms, nine fully equipped workshops, residential facilities including hostels, staff quarters, a principal’s lodge, and a corps members’ lodge, as well as a dining hall, clinic, school hall, football pitch, and basketball court. Support infrastructure such as a generator house and operational quarters ensures the school is fully functional.
State Commissioner for Technical Education, Mr. Smart Ufoh, described the college as more than just a modern technical school, calling it a symbol of transformation and a bold statement of the administration’s commitment to youth empowerment. Academic activities commenced in September 2025 with the admission of Junior Technical One students, ensuring the facilities were put to immediate use.
Local government officials and traditional leaders joined in the celebration. Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, Chairman of Warri South Local Government, commended Governor Oborevwori for impactful leadership and the commissioning of the college alongside major infrastructure projects including the Trans-Warri Road, bridges, and extensive drainage networks.
The Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, praised the Governor for prioritizing riverine communities and urged continued investments in schools, roads, bridges, and jetties across the state.
Students also expressed excitement about the new facilities. Miss Courtney Omotoyine, speaking on behalf of the students, described the commissioning as a fulfillment of a long-held dream and urged her peers to utilize the facilities responsibly and strive for excellence.
Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, and the Speakers of the Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, and Anambra State Houses of Assembly, among others. Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the MORE Agenda, promising continued investment in education and the development of world-class technical and vocational institutions across Delta State.
