A senior official of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has visited the family of an officer who was shot dead while on duty in Ogun State, pledging support for his relatives and vowing that those responsible will be brought to justice.
Comptroller Gambo Aliyu, who heads the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’, led a delegation of officers to the residence of Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC I) Mustapha Akiyode in Ita Oshe, Abeokuta, on 4 February 2026.
According to a press release issued by the Unit’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Hussaini Abdullahi, Aliyu conveyed the condolences of the Comptroller-General of Customs and the entire NCS to the widow, children and extended family of the deceased officer.
He assured the family of the Service’s continued commitment to the welfare of its personnel, both in active service and after death.
“A thorough investigation is ongoing, with every available resource mobilised to identify, apprehend and bring the perpetrators of this unfortunate incident to book and ensure they face the full wrath of the law,” Aliyu said during the visit.
The comptroller also offered prayers for the family and expressed hope that justice would be served.
ASC I Akiyode was killed in the early hours of Tuesday, 3 February 2026, after he was shot by unidentified gunmen during an ambush along the Ilara–Ijoun axis in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State. He was said to have been on official duty at the time of the attack.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding the ambush or the identity of the attackers.
