As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gradually gather momentum, the immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, has begun consultations with leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the Aniocha Federal Constituency.
Hon. Elumelu, accompanied by members of his campaign team, paid a consultation visit to the APC leadership and ward executives in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The team was received by a large gathering of party stakeholders, community leaders and supporters at the APC Secretariat in Ogwashi-Uku, the headquarters of the local government area.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Hon. Elumelu said the visit formed part of his efforts to engage party leaders and seek their support as he prepares to represent the APC in the forthcoming elections. He emphasized that his decision to consult widely reflects his respect for the party structure and the people.
He assured the gathering that if given the opportunity to serve again, he would work closely with Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to attract more development to the constituency and ensure that the people continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Hon. Elumelu also highlighted some of the achievements recorded during his time in the House of Representatives, particularly when he served as Chairman of the House Committee on Power and Steel and later as Minority Leader. According to him, his tenure witnessed several people-focused projects and interventions across communities in Aniocha North, Aniocha South and Oshimili North.
Among the notable achievements he outlined were the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads to improve access between communities, the installation of solar-powered streetlights in several towns to enhance security and night-time economic activities, and the provision of electricity infrastructure in underserved areas, especially the procurement of 1000 transformers and rehabilitation of worn out ones, and procurement of 40 hiluxes -10 per local government to monitor the projects.
He also facilitated the construction and renovation of classrooms, townhalls, ICT centres, provided educational support programmes and scholarships for students, and sponsored vocational training initiatives aimed at empowering youths and women with practical skills for self-reliance.
In the health sector, Hon. Elumelu said he supported the upgrading of some primary healthcare facilities and organized periodic medical outreach programmes which provided free treatment, drugs and eye care services to hundreds of constituents.
Other interventions, he noted, included the distribution of agricultural inputs to farmers, empowerment grants for small business owners, the facilitation of employment opportunities and federal appointments for qualified indigenes of the constituency
Chairman of the Ndudi Elumelu Campaign Council, Dr. Darlington Ijeh, urged party members to consider the lawmaker’s track record of service, noting that his experience and commitment to grassroots development make him well positioned to continue representing the people effectively.
Also speaking, the Chairman of APC in Aniocha South Local Government Area, Mr. Nobert Sochukwudinma, expressed confidence in Hon. Elumelu’s capacity to deliver. He however, emphasized that whoever eventually emerges as the party’s candidate will enjoy the collective support of members across the local government.
A minute silence was observed in honour of the late former Deputy Governor of the state, Sir Benjamin Elue.
Earlier, Hon. Elumelu had visited Aniocha North Local Government Area — his hometown — where he officially commenced the consultation tour aimed at engaging party leaders and stakeholders across the federal constituency.
The consultations are expected to continue in other parts of the constituency as political alignments gradually take shape ahead of the 2027 polls.
