Asaba, 5th August 2025 – The Delta State Police Command under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda S. Olufemi, has recorded significant achievements in the fight against crime during the month of July 2025, positioning the state as a safer environment through proactive, intelligence-driven policing.
In a press briefing held today, CP Olufemi highlighted the arrest of 211 suspects involved in various criminal activities ranging from kidnapping, internet fraud, cultism, to drug trafficking. The command successfully recovered 18 firearms, 359 rounds of live ammunition, and a total ransom amounting to ₦8.5 million from kidnappers, as well as 378 laptops and mobile devices from internet fraudsters.
Among the notable operations was the foiling of a kidnapping syndicate in Ogwashi-Ukwu, which led to the death of two suspected kidnappers and the seizure of an AK-47 rifle along with ₦3.5 million suspected ransom money. In another operation, 184 suspected internet fraudsters were arrested following a raid in Effurun, with electronic devices including laptops and smartphones confiscated.
The command also disrupted a notorious criminal gang led by Owei Abebo, alias “Adusa”, arresting key members and recovering 247 rounds of SMG live ammunition. Additionally, six suspected kidnappers were neutralized in a gun battle along the Patani-Ughelli Expressway during a high-stakes sting operation.
In the area of cult-related crime, arrests were made including the seizure of locally made guns, and suspected cultists were intercepted trying to attack students at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Ukwu. Drug trafficking networks were also dismantled with suspects apprehended and illicit substances like tramadol, codeine, Swinol, and cannabis recovered.
The Commissioner of Police urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities at the nearest police station or contacting the dedicated control room numbers provided.
CP Olufemi reinforced the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Delta State through continued intelligence-based and community-focused policing efforts.
