150 indigenes of Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State have been sponsored into the state health insurance scheme, courtesy of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Development Dr. Patrick Ighomrore.
The registration of the beneficiaries took place on Tuesday, July 15, at the Ugwu’Udi family Hall, Egodokporo , Effurun.
The Director-General of the Commission, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, said the initiative was beyond offering medical assistance or covering medical expenses,” but more about preventing avoidable suffering, restoring dignity and ensuring that no child or adult in Delta State is left behind in healthcare.
Commending the gesture, Dr Akpoveta described the sponsor of the new enrollees, Dr. Patrick Ighomrore, as a respected philanthropist and advocate for community development, a great son of globalism” and “a man of the people,” saying that his investment in humanity exemplified the spirit of philanthropy.
The DG pointed out that since inception, over 2.6 million people have been registered into the state health insurance scheme, through the programs of the DSCHC, adding that it was a clear reflection of public confidence in the healthcare delivery model.
He urged Deltans at home and in the diaspora to support the initiative by reaching out to the vulnerable around them.
The sponsor, Dr. Patrick Ighomrore, said the gesture represented his contribution to a vision of a healthier Uvwie where access to medical care is not a privilege for the few, but a right for all, saying that the gesture was just the first phase of his initiative to support residents of Uvwie.
Dr. Ighomrore said development is most meaningful when it impacted lives.
He commended the State Government for its “people-focused vision” and consistent investment in the welfare of citizens.
Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Board, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata, commended the DSCHC leadership for its transparency and commitment to ensuring that all residents of the state enjoyed accessible and quality healthcare.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to their sponsor and the commission.
The event featured the presentation of Health Ambassador Award to the sponsor, Dr. Patrick Ighomrore, by the Commission’s DG and a formal presentation of health cards to the new Enrollee.
It was attended by the State commissioner for Economic Planning, Hon. Sunny Ekedayen, and Chairman Delta Mortgage Trust Bank, Hon. Jude Ogbimi among other dignitaries.
