The Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, says opposition parties have become “unnecessary” in Delta State, arguing that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s performance has erased the need for political resistance.
Speaking Wednesday on Voice of Delta Radio’s public affairs program Orientation Panorama, Oghenesivbe asserted that residents are “happy and satisfied” under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, citing economic growth, improved security, and large-scale infrastructure projects. According to him, these gains have effectively rendered opposition groups “impotent and ineffective.”
Oghenesivbe credited what he called the declining relevance of opposition parties to Oborevwori’s “pragmatic and visionary leadership,” describing the administration as transparent, accountable, and inclusive. He added that the governor’s accomplishments in under three years have already surpassed his campaign promises.
“The opposition thrives where leadership fails,” Oghenesivbe said, arguing that the strong performance of the APC government leaves critics with “no basis” for meaningful scrutiny.
He urged struggling opposition groups to merge with the APC “for relevance,” pointing to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s recent defection to the party as a “good omen” for South-South politics and a sign of what he described as a growing APC stronghold in the region.
Oghenesivbe also hailed a recent Delta Central Senatorial District stakeholders’ meeting, where party leaders reaffirmed their loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori and pledged unity ahead of the 2027 elections. He praised the commitment and cohesion of key political figures, including Minister Festus Keyamo, SAN, and several senior APC leaders, for strengthening the party’s influence.
“Delta is a one-party state—the APC,” he said. “Opposition parties cannot be relevant under a performing governor and a purposeful, productive ruling party. Deltans have chosen to distance themselves from those who do not mean well for the state.”
Oghenesivbe concluded with a sweeping prediction: that opposition groups will remain “grossly impotent” in Delta State until Oborevwori’s administration ends in 2031.
