The Delta State Police Command has firmly dismissed widespread rumours alleging a bandit invasion at Girls’ Secondary School, Utagba-Ogbe, Kwale, describing the reports as “entirely false, misleading, and fueled by misinformation.”
Panic rippled through the community on Monday morning after unverified claims—circulated among students and amplified by online speculation—suggested that the school had come under attack. Some reports further hinted at supposed gunshots, prompting anxious parents to rush to the school in fear for their children’s safety.
According to an official statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the scare began internally and was not triggered by any real security threat.
It said upon receiving the alarm, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered an immediate deployment of officers for on-the-ground assessment, with the patrol team, led by SP Udofia Kufre, Divisional Crime Officer of Kwale Division, conducting a swift investigation at the school.
The statement adds that the Vice Principal and the security personnel on duty confirmed that no attack occurred. “The panic emanated solely from misinformation among students,” the police said, emphasizing that the environment remained secure throughout the incident.
It stated that adjoining schools across the Kwale axis were also inspected and found to be calm, safe, and operating normally. Authorities reassured parents that normalcy has since been fully restored.
Commissioner Abaniwonda cautioned the public against spreading unverified rumours capable of disrupting academic activities or instilling fear within communities. He stressed the Command’s commitment to responding swiftly to credible threats while ensuring the safety of all educational institutions across Delta State.

He also urged school administrators to strengthen internal communication, maintain vigilance, report any suspicious activities promptly, and work closely with local security outfits to boost monitoring around school environments.
