California Governor Gavin Newsom said he is suing the Trump administration over the move by President Donald Trump to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles to curb unrest over immigration raids.
In a post on X on Monday, Newsom said the violence that has broken out in parts of Los Angeles during three days of weekend protests over Immigrations and Customs Enforcement raids and arrests, leading the president to activate California National Guard units to protect federal property, is “exactly what Trump wanted.”
President Trump had repeatedly criticised Newsom and other California officials’ handling of the protests and the White House says he “rightfully stepped in to restore law and order”.
The US President Donald Trump deployed the National Guard to the Californian city, as the protests flared up in Los Angeles over immigration raids.
Reports say Security forces and protesters faced off against each other in clashes that at times turned violent on Sunday.
A Video from the unrest showed batons were used and armoured vehicles deployed.
