The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday conducted State House of Assembly primaries across several local government areas in Delta State, with party officials and stakeholders describing the exercise as peaceful, orderly and largely in compliance with party guidelines.
Across constituencies monitored, sole aspirants emerged through affirmation votes conducted under the party’s adopted process, while security personnel and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored proceedings at various locations.
In Ndokwa West Local Government Area, party members in Ward 5, Onicha-Ukwuani, converged on Nkwo Market Square in large numbers to participate in the exercise for the Ndokwa/Ukwuani State Constituency seat.
The exercise drew the participation of the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, who cast his vote alongside other party members.
According to the Returning Officer for Ward 5, Mr. Famous Isicheili, the APC had a sole candidate for the constituency, Chief Chukwudi Olie, who secured 2,010 votes during the affirmation process.
Speaking after the exercise, Onyeme praised party members for what he described as the peaceful conduct of the primaries, noting that the people of the area had maintained a culture of unity and peaceful coexistence.
He said the House of Representatives, Senatorial and House of Assembly primaries in the area were conducted without disruption, while urging party faithful to sustain the momentum in the forthcoming governorship and presidential primaries.
The deputy governor also thanked members for their continued support for the party and the administration of Governor .
Ward 5 Chairman, Chief Adolphus Nwachukwu, similarly appealed for unity among party members ahead of future elections, while the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Asaba, Sir Ifeanyi Osakwe, commended members for the impressive turnout.
A similar atmosphere played out in Oshimili North Local Government Area, where party members participated in the APC House of Assembly primary across voting centres without reported incidents.
At Ward F, Ibusa Ward 5, sole aspirant, Honourable Innocent Esewezie, joined party loyalists for the exercise conducted through the Option A4 voting system.
Returning officers in the area confirmed that only accredited and registered APC members participated in the process.
Party leaders and supporters described the exercise as peaceful and consistent with party procedures, noting that the affirmation effectively ratified Esewezie’s candidacy, having emerged as the only aspirant cleared for the Oshimili North contest.
Security personnel and INEC officials were also deployed to monitor proceedings.
In Oshimili South, party faithful gathered at Ward 5, Umuajie, and Ward 9, West End, where members affirmed Honourable Bridget Anyanfulu as the APC’s sole candidate for the State House of Assembly election.
Observers at the exercise described the process as orderly and transparent, with accredited party members queuing to cast affirmation votes.
Party stakeholders said the peaceful conduct of members demonstrated growing cohesion within the APC, expressing optimism that the outcome would strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
Security presence remained visible throughout the exercise, with no incidents reported.
Meanwhile, in Ika South Local Government Area, Mrs. Cordilia Anyangwu secured 9,201 votes to emerge as the party’s consensus candidate for the State House of Assembly seat.
Returning Officer Mr. Victor Oloke said the exercise was successfully conducted across the area’s twelve wards in line with APC electoral guidelines.
The exercise witnessed a large turnout of party members, who participated peacefully across polling centres.
Receiving the result alongside party stakeholders, Ika South APC Chairman, Mr. Frank Izekor, commended the transparency of the process and praised members for their turnout.
In her acceptance remarks, Anyangwu expressed appreciation to party members for their confidence in her candidacy, dedicating her victory to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former governor , and women participating in politics.
She urged party supporters to maintain the same level of commitment during the forthcoming governorship and presidential primaries.
In Warri South-West Local Government Area, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, was formally affirmed as the APC sole candidate for the constituency ahead of the 2027 State Assembly election.
The affirmation process, conducted across the ten wards of the local government area, was supervised by the Returning Officer and Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani, alongside ward officials.
Guwor voted in Gbaramatu Ward Four before proceeding to the collation centre in Ogbe-Ijoh, where party leaders, federal and state lawmakers, as well as members of the State Executive Council, gathered.
Speaking after the exercise, Guwor described the outcome as evidence of the growing unity and strength of the APC in Delta State, while stakeholders applauded the peaceful and coordinated conduct of the primaries.
The APC primaries across the councils reflected a largely consensus-driven process, with party leaders repeatedly calling for unity and sustained mobilisation ahead of future elections.
