The National Assembly Primary Election Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has pledged to deliver a peaceful and transparent nomination process as party members prepare to elect candidates for the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Asaba on Monday, chairman of the committee, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odo, said arrangements had been concluded to ensure a smooth exercise across Delta North, Delta Central and Delta South senatorial districts.
Addressing journalists alongside members of the committee, Odo explained that election logistics had already been moved to designated wards and local government areas to avoid delays or disruptions during the primaries.
He noted that both sensitive and non-sensitive materials had been distributed in preparation for the exercise, expressing confidence in the committee’s readiness to oversee a credible process.
According to him, security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would be present at various venues to observe proceedings and maintain law and order.
Odo said the party adopted the direct primary system to allow wider participation by members, stressing that the approach gives registered APC members the opportunity to decide who flies the party’s flag in the National Assembly elections.
He described the process as a reflection of the party’s commitment to strengthening internal democracy and ensuring fairness among aspirants seeking elective positions.
To guarantee effective coordination, the committee chairman disclosed that members of the seven-man panel had been assigned to separate teams responsible for monitoring activities in each of the three senatorial districts.
He explained that the arrangement was intended to ensure proper supervision of the exercise and compliance with party regulations across the state.
While calling on aspirants and supporters to maintain peace, Odo urged party faithful to avoid actions capable of undermining the process, assuring members that the leadership of the APC remained committed to conducting a credible exercise.
He expressed optimism that a successful primary election would further unite the party and position it strongly for future electoral contests in the state.
“The expectation is for a smooth and peaceful process that reflects the collective decision of party members,” he said, urging stakeholders to cooperate with officials for a hitch-free exercise.
