A total of 36 aspirants seeking tickets to contest for seats in the Delta State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress, APC, have been disqualified following the conclusion of the party’s screening and appeal process.
Speaking during a press briefing, the Delta State APC Chairman, Chief Solomon Areyinka, said the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s guidelines for screening House of Assembly aspirants.
Areyinka explained that following the publication of the initial screening results, the party constituted a three-member screening appeal committee to review petitions and complaints arising from the exercise.
He identified members of the committee as Senator Ben Collins Ndu, who served as chairman, Barrister Peter Ugwu as secretary, and Honourable Anthony Nwobodo as member.
The APC chairman commended the committee for what he described as a diligent and transparent assignment, praising its commitment to due process.
Chairman of the appeal panel, Senator Ben Collins Ndu, disclosed that the committee received six petitions, all of which were carefully reviewed in accordance with the party’s guidelines.
He said the committee had completed its report and forwarded the outcome of its findings to the party’s national headquarters for further action.
Senator Ndu also expressed appreciation to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and the Delta APC leadership for providing what he described as a conducive environment for the committee to carry out its responsibilities.
He appealed to aspirants who did not scale through the screening process to remain calm, patient, and committed to the party, stressing the need for unity ahead of future electoral activities.
According to figures released at the briefing, a total of 82 aspirants were screened, with 46 cleared to contest while 36 were disqualified.
The press briefing was attended by top APC officials, including the State Deputy Chairman APC Elder Moses Iduh; State Organising Secretary APC Elder Emmanuel Idabor; APC Chairman Delta South Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba and the State Publicity Secretary of the party Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq.
