The wives of local government chairmen in Delta State have launched the second phase of their Food Bank initiative, aimed at supporting the most vulnerable members of society.
The programme took place in Ethiope West Local Government Area, bringing together women who say they are determined to use their positions to promote compassion, community development and spiritual renewal—especially as the Christmas season approaches.
The coordinator of the initiative, and wife of the Aniocha South Local Government Chairman, Mrs Ella Chukwunwike, said the goal to ensure that no Deltan goes hungry, regardless of their local government.
She explained that wives of Council Chairmen are deliberately using their platforms to complement government efforts by lending a helping hand to the needy, stressing that food security remains a shared responsibility.
The Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government, Mr. Onogba Chris, expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing the commitment of the women as impactful and far-reaching across the state.
Some of the wives of Council Chairmen in their remarks, reaffirmed their commitment to sustained humanitarian outreach, noting that supporting the less privileged remains a key way of supporting their spouses occupying leadership seats.
Beyond food distribution, the gathering also featured a health talk focusing on blood pressure and diabetes, with participants reminded that good health is essential for a joyful and productive festive season.
The event featured praise and prayer session, as well as a spontaneous birthday song in honour of Mrs Ella Chukwuwinke, who recently marked her birthday.
The food items donated at the event is expected to be distributed across all local government areas in Delta State.
For these women, giving, they say, is not just charity—but a core expression of Christian faith. They also used the occasion to send goodwill messages to Deltans, urging them to embrace love, generosity and unity as they prepare for the Christmas celebrations.
