The Director-General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, has called on members of the Association of Nigeria Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP) in Delta state to collaborate with the commission and enrol their staff in the state’s health insurance programme.
Dr. Akpoveta made the call during the commission’s quarterly review meeting on the New policy plan with ANPMP members across the state.
He said the commission was targeting 80 percent population coverage as part of a broader strategy to attain Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the state, noting that enrolling staff of private medical facilities was key in achieving the feat.
“We cannot achieve Universal Health Coverage without the full participation and support of the private health sector. Every facility and every staff member counts,” Dr. Akpoveta said.
The DG appealed to private medical practitioners to render quality health services to the enrollees in their facilities, especially providing them with effective drugs and shunning sharp practices, as that would encourage more persons to voluntarily enrol into the scheme and renew their insurance policies.
He tasked the association to ensure compliance among its members and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to working with private practitioners to deliver quality and affordable healthcare to all Deltans.
The Director-General reiterated that scheme was part of state government’s efforts to reduce out-of-pocket healthcare expenses and improve access to health services for residents across all income levels.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the ANPMP Delta State Chapter, Dr. Moses Chikaike, commended the Director-General of the Commission for his dedication and efforts in facilitating a smooth transition of the healthcare system and enhancing quality access to healthcare services in Delta State.
