SOROPTOMIST INTERNATIONAL CLUB OF ASABA INSTALLS BEST SISTER UCHE ONWUMAH AS 14TH PRESIDENT

‎The need for collaboration in creating a brighter future for women and girls in Asaba and environs was the fulcrum of the message during the Change Of Insignia/installation Ceremony of  Uche Onwumah, as the 14th President of Soroptimist International, Asaba, Delta State.

‎Declaring the event open,  the Chairman, Installation Committee, Mrs. Catherine Ikemefuna, said the change of insignia and installation aimed to foster collaboration with other Non Governmental Organizations working to better the lots of women, the girl child, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as the local communities, and congratulated the new president.

‎In her acceptance speech,  the newly installed president listed key initiatives for the 2024-2025 biennial year to include, reading action programme competition for girls in Junior High school, cervical Cancer Screening for indigent women, Massive awareness creation on Issues bothering on gender based violence, creation of school clubs to catch them young and Widows empowerment programs.

‎She said the initiatives would be implemented through partnership with local schools and organizations, community leaders, support groups and medical professionals, assuring her organization of transparency and accountability throughout her tenure.

‎The president said members of Soroptimist International, were united by a shared mission to uplift the lives of women and girls, both locally and globally, adding that by working together, with passion, dedication, and commitment to the mission, they could make significant difference in the lives of women and girls in Asaba and its environs.

‎ Delta State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Girl Child Development, Orode Uduaghan, said the goals of the Soroptomist International Asaba aligned with her ideals and pledged her ministry’s support and partnership to the course of the organisation.

‎A former president of Soroptomist International Asaba, Chief Theresa Allanah said the mission of the global service organization was to empower women and girls through education, health, and other initiatives, and create a world where women and girls had equal voice in their communities, even as she expressed confidence in the ability of Onwumah to carry out the mission effectively.

‎Chairman on the occasion, Rtn. Andy Uwejeyan, said women are the “bedrock of every home and encouraged the new presi­dent to work to make the organization a safe space for women.

‎The event featured formal installation of the new president and her executive,  the induc­tion of honorary members including the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Girl Child Development, Orode Uduaghan, Award presentation, cutting of the installation cake, a launch of the President’s Core projects, lecture on Healthy Diet for graceful aging: Fueling your life,  Accelerating your health by as well as a Raffle draw.

‎Soroptimist International Nigeria is a dedicated organization working to create a more equitable and prosperous world for women and girls in Nigeria, focusing on education, empowerment, and community development.
