The Rivers State Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving individuals impersonating police officers and engaging in extortion across the state.
In a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, ANIPR, the Command raised concern over a disturbing trend in which persons dressed in black attire and posing as police officers allegedly extort unsuspecting members of the public.
The statement noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, psc, mnips, has activated robust measures to monitor, identify, arrest, and prosecute all those involved in the illegal activities to the full extent of the law.
The Police Command stressed that no individual has the authority to search citizens’ personal devices, including phones or laptops, at checkpoints or on the road, nor can anyone compel citizens to withdraw or transfer money through POS operators or financial institutions.
