House Committees Urge Efficient Budget Utilization and Timely Completion of Projects in Tertiary Institutions

The House Committee on Education has directed the Ministry of Higher Education to expedite the completion of ongoing projects across tertiary institutions. The committee’s Chairman, Hon. Charles Emetulu, issued the directive during the Ministry’s budget defence session, emphasizing the government’s continued commitment to advancing the education sector.

Hon. Emetulu stressed the importance of judicious use of allocated funds and called on tertiary institutions to collaborate effectively with both the Ministry and the House Committee to ensure that developmental projects are completed within the stipulated timelines.

In a related oversight activity, the House Committee on Public Accounts, chaired by Hon. James Augoye, reviewed the budget of the Offices of the Auditor-General. The committee lauded the performance of the Local Government Auditor-General’s Office, highlighting its adherence to accountability and fiscal discipline.

Additionally, the Directorate of Transport and the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Development Agency presented and defended their respective budget proposals before their oversight committees, reinforcing the legislature’s commitment to transparency and proper utilization of public funds.

These proceedings underscore the pivotal role of legislative oversight in promoting efficiency, accountability, and strategic development across key sectors of governance.
