A delegation from the United Kingdom–based Channel 4 News has commended the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), for what it described as significant progress in counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria’s North East.
The team, led by Senior Producer and Team Leader Freddie Gower, visited the theatre headquarters in Maiduguri, Borno State, where they received operational briefings and engaged with military commanders.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters North East Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the visit was aimed at showcasing to the international community the gains made by the Nigerian Armed Forces in the fight against terrorism.
Gower said Channel 4 News, headquartered in London with a global audience, focuses on major global issues including terrorism, asymmetric warfare and human interest stories. He noted that the visit provided an opportunity for the crew to gain first-hand insight into ongoing military operations and their impact on local communities.
He expressed appreciation to the Theatre Commander for the reception accorded the delegation, describing the engagement as “insightful and rewarding.” The detailed briefings, he said, offered a clearer understanding of OPHK’s operational achievements, prevailing challenges and overall progress in stabilisation efforts across the region.
In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, said Operation Hadin Kai remains committed to restoring normalcy across the North East to enable socio-economic activities to flourish.
He described the media visit as a reflection of growing international interest in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts and assured the delegation of the Command’s full cooperation. He reaffirmed OPHK’s commitment to professionalism, transparency and responsible media engagement.
Major General Abubakar further disclosed that the Joint Task Force has prioritised the protection of vulnerable communities through sustained non-kinetic operations. He said these efforts have contributed to the return of thousands of internally displaced persons to their ancestral homes.
According to him, improved security conditions have also enabled farm patrols aimed at boosting food security, while ensuring continued protection for humanitarian organisations delivering medical care, nutrition services, vaccinations and other critical support to affected populations.
Operation Hadin Kai has been at the forefront of Nigeria’s counter-insurgency campaign in the North East, targeting terrorist groups and working to stabilise communities impacted by years of conflict.
