The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has secured ISO 9001:2015 certification for the provision of aeronautical meteorological services at Yola, Osubi and Owerri airports.
The certification followed a third-party audit conducted by Certech Inc. Canada between July 20 and 23, 2026, to assess NiMet’s products and services provided to the aviation industry at the three airports.
According to NiMet, the agency’s services were found to conform to the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 quality management standard following the audit.
The development follows a directive by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, to NiMet’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Charles Anosike, to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and improve Nigeria’s rating with the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
NiMet said it had also been recertified under the ISO 9001:2015 standard for aeronautical meteorological services at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos; Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano; Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja; Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu; and Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
With the latest certification, NiMet said its ISO 9001:2015 certification now covers eight Nigerian international airports.
The certification is valid for three years, with annual surveillance and maintenance audits scheduled before the next recertification exercise in 2029.
In a letter dated July 26, 2026, Certech Lead Auditor and Director, Frank Strohmeier, said the audit objectives were achieved and that the assessment involved a systematic process audit with emphasis on risks and objectives under ISO 9001:2015.
The revised certificate issued by Certech states that NiMet’s quality management system conforms to ISO 9001:2015 requirements for the provision of meteorological services to the aviation industry.
The agency noted that the certification of its aeronautical meteorological services at Yola, Osubi and Owerri was achieved during the first audit of the three locations for ISO 9001:2015 certification.
Speaking on the development, Anosike commended NiMet’s Quality Management System team, led by Rotimi Adenubi, for its work in securing the certification.
“We are excited about this. Our Quality Management System team led by Rotimi Adenubi have been working round the clock to achieve this feat,” Anosike said.
He added that the agency would continue to improve its standards across all operational locations.
